Halfling society is mostly quiet and agrarian..
The joys of life are simple joys. Laughter is common, garden rows are neat, and the stoop of most every doorway is clean and welcoming. The food is good, and the beer is better.
Though halflings are rare, there are those who seek adventure. Once an orphan who turned adventurer alongside a band of misfits that ended up saving the world, Shinki ended his adventuring days by settling down in the rolling hills of his people. He sought quiet and peace after his days of war and lost friends, both those who had died and those who had become enemies. With the wealth garnered during his adventures, he bought an estate and attempted to settle down in anonymity. Fate had other plans.
A young dragon attacked the village during the annual harvest celebration. Shinki asked the nearest halfling to hold his beer for him, maneuvered himself beneath the dragon’s chin, and punched the dragon directly in the soft spot under its chest, stopping its heart and killing the dragon instantly.
Shinki asked the nearest halfling to hold his beer for him..
Maneuvered himself beneath the dragon’s chin, and punched the dragon directly in the soft spot under its chest, stopping its heart and killing the dragon instantly. He then sat back down and, bewildered, asked where his beer had gone. The screams of terror from only moments before had stopped, and he was met only with stunned silence, then thunderous cheering.
The leaders of the surrounding halfling clans came to him and asked him to become the king, and defender of the hills. He reluctantly accepted and began to train young, energetic halflings in the arts of battle, teaching them to use their stature to their advantage. He knew that word of his Kingship would spread, and eventually it would reach the ears of his once friend and ally, Creech. King Shinki is quick footed and powerful. Most of all, he is an inspiration to his people. He does not share the details of his past with others, and remains largely private. He has trained his troops to engage enemies as a group in ways that benefit from their small size.
Halflings are masters of group tactics, and benefit greatly from clever positioning to attack. Their small stature, however, prevents them from having a deep health pool.
